Specifying a system for winter heating is a stricter exercise than specifying one for summer cooling. From October through to March the same units are asked to do the opposite job: pull warmth out of cold outdoor air and push it inside. That is a very different, and far harder, demand on the equipment, so a unit chosen only with summer in mind can fall short in the coldest week of the year. To hold that efficiency over the years, a heat pump does want an annual service and check-up, same as any heating appliance. A residential service visit is usually around £45 for a single unit, carried out by an F-Gas registered engineer, and every service ends with a performance test in both heating and cooling modes. Manufacturer parts warranties, typically 3 to 6 years on residential installs, are almost always conditional on that annual service, and we back our own workmanship for two years.
